I have developed my people, technical, operational and commercial skills from almost 40 years in a number of engineering and management positions in the electronics industry, public sector agencies and as Managing Director of UXL since 2002. I have a strong track record delivering results with business owners and managers, operating in a broad range of industrial and commercial sectors. I work directly with business leaders and over the last 20 years have delivered coaching and consultancy support to start-ups and SMEs for a range of public sector organisations including: Scottish Enterprise, Business Gateway, Invest Northern Ireland, Regional Development and with the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME), where I am a business innovation coach on the Horizon 2020 programme, which was established to help technology businesses scale-up and grow globally. I'm also on the board of a fantastic social enterprise, Grow Communication, that offers a range of services to meet the diverse needs families looking for Autism and ADD/ ADHD assessments or Speech and Language Therapy for themselves or their child. We have a great team delivering services that makes a real difference to families across Scotland. As a non-exec I advise the team on strategy, business model adaptation, marketing and commercials to support development and expansion. As you will have gathered I've been out of school for a while but from an education perspective I augmented my early formal training in Mechanical and Production Engineering with an MBA from the University of Strathclyde and continually update my skills with methodologies that have been proven to help SMEs develop and grow.
